Fisher Scientific

Description

In 1902, Chester Garfield Fisher formed the Scientific Material Company to sell laboratory equipment and reagents for Pittsburgh-area laboratories and factories. In 1915, the company added a research and development arm, and developed new instruments like the Meker-Fisher burner (invented in 1921). In 1925, the company purchased the Canadian Scientific Supplies, Ltd. and changed its name to Fisher Scientific. In 2006, the company merged with Thermo Electron to become Thermo Fisher Scientific.
