Eimer & Amend was founded in 1856 when Carl Eimer joined a firm founded by Bernard Amend in 1851. The firm imported European chemical laboratory supplies to an American market, and counted Thomas Edison, E. R. Squibb, and Henry Ford among its clients. In 1940, the company was acquired by Fisher Scientific.
