TEEN PROGRAMMING COUNCIL

Our Teen Programming Council creates opportunities for local high school students to connect with MIT researchers and other MIT community members, and discover the depth and breadth of science and engineering career possibilities. Members gain leadership, collaboration, and organizational skills through the planning of Teen Science Café and other events.

Applications for the 2024-2025 Teen Programming Council are currently under review. All applicants will be notified of their status by the end of the day on Saturday, September 28. Selected members will have their first meeting on Saturday, October 12, 2024. In the meantime, be sure to follow the Council on Instagram (@MIT_TPC).

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

We are currently accepting applications for Engagement Volunteers.

Are you passionate about science, technology, art, and making? Would you enjoy sharing your enthusiasm with museum visitors of all ages? Join our education and public programs team as a volunteer.

Volunteers lead and support activities in our galleries and maker spaces on a range of topics from photography to robotics, interacting with visitors and inviting them to dive deeper into the subject through open-ended exploration and conversation, as everyone has something unique to offer.

Requirements:

• high school graduates at least 17 years old
• commit to at least 2-4 hours of volunteering per week on a regular schedule
• participate in all required volunteer training at the Museum
• pass a background check for working with youth
• behave in a manner consistent with the Museum’s values

Volunteer opportunities with the Collections team will begin in fall 2024 following the completion of the museum’s new off-site collections facility. Please check back here in spring 2024 for more updates about volunteer opportunities.

Are you interested in learning more about the MIT Museum collections? Do you want to help curators inventory, catalog, and photograph more than 1.5 million objects? Would you like to learn how to present collections artifacts to the public? Help research an exhibition?

Our collections team selects a small number of volunteers to assist in its vital work, based on the needs of the museum, and your qualifications. When opportunities are available, full descriptions will be posted.

Volunteers in Collections need not be affiliated with MIT, but we do require that they:

• have completed high school and be at least 17 years old
• commit to at least 50 hours of volunteering per year
• participate in all required volunteer training at the Museum
• behave in a manner consistent with the Museum’s values
• certain volunteer jobs may have additional qualifications.
