25 Inertial Reference Integrating Gyroscope (IRIG) Mod 3 wheel display
Description
A diorama showcasing a metal cylinder with a metal bar running through it. The bar is attached to two tines of a plastic gold trident which rests on a base made to look like ocean waves. The base has a small plaque that reads "25 IRIG-Mod.3".
The 25 Inertial Reference Integrating Gyroscope (IRIG) Mod 3 gyro was designed by the MIT/Charles Stark Draper Laboratory Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) group for use on various Navy projects. It was used in a variety of inertial navigation systems, including the Polaris (a submarine-launched ballistic missile), and the Apollo Command Module.
