The Thomson Recording Wattmeter, invented by Elihu Thomson.

Original caption: "The Thomson Recording Wattmeter, forefather of the type which records the consumption of electrical current in every home today. This device was sent to the Paris Meter Competition in 1890, a year after its invention by Dr. Thomson. It was awarded half the prize of 10,000 francs, the other half going to the Arons meter. At the World's Fair in Chicago in 1893 the Thomson meter was chosen as the standard of reference for all others. From John J. Rowlands news Service, M.I.T. Cambridge, Mass."
