"Spanning the Massachusetts Turnpike and incorporating an existing substructure and renovated service areas, the new Hynes Convention Center accommodates large conventions and multiple events in the historic Back Bay district of Boston. The facility contains 193,000 sf of exhibition space, generous pre-function gathering areas, 71,000 sf of meeting rooms, an auditorium for 5,000 people, a triple-space ballroom, a cafeteria and requisite service and circulation space. The exhibition and convention areas are structured around the monumental entry drum and moving escalators, a linear atrium, a small rotunda and long double height glazed loggia with views of the city. A stoa-like like frontal volume along Boylston Street, containing break-out and circulation spaces connects the building with the life of the city street. The 500 foot long, stone-clad façade and arcade lend coherence to a major thoroughfare and a sequence of buildings embellished by Richardson’s Trinity Church and the Public Library of McKim Mead, White and Johnson."
