Boston-based naval architect

Edward Burgess began his career as a professor of entomology at Harvard, but turned to his secondary interests in yacht design as a more practical career when his family's business went bankrupt in 1883. Burgess proved to be a talented designer, producing three America's Cup winners and dozens of smaller vessels. Burgess also worked closely with the next generation of naval architects, including his son, W. Starling Burgess, and MIT grad Arthur Binney.
