Description

The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company was a major yacht design, boatbuilding, and marine engineering firm in Bristol, Rhode Island. It was founded by John B. Herreshoff and his brother, MIT alum Nathanael G. Herreshoff, in 1878. With Nathanael as the primary designer and John the business manager, the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company produced fast steamers and hundreds of innovative, successful sailing yachts. The company was sold to Rudolph F. Haffenreffer in 1924 and closed in 1945.
