Description

Edgerton had a tale that went along with this spyglass, taken from a letter from Edgerton to Warren Seamans March 6, 1985:

"A long glass was given to Prof. Harold H. Edgerton by a janitor many years ago. There is a rumor that, as a young man, he was in servitude to Pres. Rogers when he came from Virginia to Massachusetts. When Rogers died, M.I.T. gave the former slave (?) employment as a janitor."
